To set up a WINNER RIS architecture, you need at least the following :
- A LAN (Local Area Network). At least two connected computers. One of these computers is to undergo a Windows XP installation (we'll call it the Client), and the other will serve the RIS service (the Server).
- The Server can be any of the following : Windows 95, 98, Me, XP, 2000, 2003.
- And the Client can be any working computer, be a desktop, laptop, or even a virtual machine.
- A Share. The Server must be able to share files (any Microsoft Windows computer can).
- Space. The Server should have enough space disk (2 or 3 Go at least).
Note that the Server can be a Linux box. In this case, you'll have to
follow a specific howto, so to install Samba, a DNS, a DHCP and a RIS
service for Linux. It should be easy, after these steps, to adapt the
present Howto to your configuration. The RIS for Linux installation is not
covered in this document.
